TBI Exposure

Are there modifiable factors that can improve the quality of life for the millions of people living with traumatic brain injury (TBI) around the world? Dr. Jasmeet Hayes’ research focuses on understanding the long-term effects of repetitive head impacts, TBI, and links to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Her work explores how genetic and biological factors influence recovery and vulnerability after brain injury, and how TBI and neurodegenerative diseases can co-occur. Using advanced neuroimaging techniques such as MRI, Dr. Hayes examines functional and structural changes in the brain to help clinicians better understand how injury and disease affect cognition over time. Through this research, her team aims to identify risk and resilience factors that can guide strategies to promote healthy aging and improve outcomes for individuals with TBI.
