Fitness

Is physical fitness related to cognition and brain health? How can your physical fitness slow down the aging process? Dr. Scott Hayes has spent his research career examining the link between fitness and healthy brain aging. His research, along with the research of others, has linked cardiorespiratory fitness as a modifiable factor that impacts how we age. Cardiorespiratory fitness has been positively associated with greater cortical thickness, better episodic memory, and white matter integrity in older adults. This study will follow a group of adults over time to examine the changing relationship between physical health and fitness as we age. The images above highlight some of Dr. Hayes’s research showing how fitness levels in older adults is associated with memory and brain connectivity! Click here to learn about: aging.
