Are there modifiable factors we can find to better the quality of life for the millions of people living with TBI around the world? Dr. Jasmeet Hayes’ research has also centered around traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Alzheimer’s disease. She has added to scientific literature by exploring the relationship between various genetic factors and brain injury and disease, examining how disease and injury can be comorbid, and looking at functional changes in the brain using fMRI to help clinicians better understand how these diseases affect the brain. Recent research has shown that sustaining a TBI increases the likelihood of developing AD and cognitive decline. With this in mind, we hope to understand how living with a TBI changes long-term cognitive health.
